Course Description

Survey of biblical, theological, and historical approaches to prayer, the devotional life, and the person and work of God. Understanding the foundations upon which the world and society are built. It the proceeds to cover making the right decisions to get involved in transforming our world instead of the church being passive. It treats the need to re-position the mental attitude of the church regarding wealth and poverty. Attention will also be given to Daniel, his character, experience and exploits as God’s servant and agent of hope of society and nations.


Focus will be on Spiritual Formation from the experiences of Daniel and lessons that can be applied in pastoral leadership in church and society. Students will produce a reflection paper on how they can mirror Daniel. In a Journey Narrative, the student will write his/her own personal spiritual story (4-5 pages) and produce a 3-4 page review of a book selected for spiritual formation. The student will be required to submit a two-three (2-3) page paper on his/her notations and reflections of the audio messages from the General Overseer, Chairman, Moderator or Arch-Bishop of a Church. The student must include a statement of the percentage of the required messages that you listened to.

 

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course the student will:

  1. Grasp the meaning and nature of Spiritual formation for ministry.
  2. Competently explain the places of discipline and community in spiritual formation
  3. Understand God as Spirit: His Person and Work and role the formation of the Man/Woman of God
  4. Develop Principles of spiritual formation around the Daniel’s experiences in the corridors of power and other related subjects.

  1. Spiritual Formation: What does it mean and why is it so important?
  2. Biblical, theological, and historical approaches to prayer, the devotional life
  3. Who is God? Why is he the object of Spiritual Formation?
  4. What and who holds society in place: ― The Pillars of Society.
  5. The Pastor’s Role in Society: ― To be or not to Be.
  6. The Pastor identifying and implementing God’s agenda only: ―Daniel, Agendas and Games.
  7. The Pastor strategically winning both God’s and Man’s Favor: ―Daniel Gaining Access.
  8. The Pastor’s spirituality of wellbeing: ―Wealth and Poverty.
  9. The Pastor’s privileged role as a spiritual officer in the Kingdom of Kingdoms - the Church: ― Daniel and the Kingdoms.
  10. Temptations of the Church Leader and Protective mechanisms 
  11. God in search of a spiritually formed reformer in the church and society

 

Mode of Delivery

Through lectures, seminars, class interaction, group discussion, reading and assignments.
